Shafting And Rudder System

Category: Propulsion System

Propeller shaft line is used to transmit the engine power to propeller thrust. Each vessel has its unique propulsion shaftline system, the typical parts include thrust shaft, intermediate/stern shafts, bearings, couplings and seals. Propeller shaftline is simple structured, yet it is quite crucial for safe sailing.

With fixed pitch propellers, Fountom do also design and manufacture the most applicable shaftlines for your vessel based on whirling vibration requirements of shipping class societies.

Static analysis

  • shaftline deflection, shear force, bending moment and stress on the shaft
  • shaftline stiffness and bearing influences
  • bearing reaction loads.

Dynamic analysis

  • vibration natural frequencies
  • vibratory response amplitudes and barred speed range
  • fatigue analysis.
